Farm to Table: Your Guide to San Luis Obispo County Farmers’ Markets



An abundance of local farm to table vegetables and produce, and homemade and handmade goods are bountiful along California’s Central Coast at farmers’ markets in the region. Visitors come from all over to enjoy the rainbow of fresh grown foods at the peak of the growing season, all the while supporting their local farmers and artisans in San Luis Obispo County.

Since 1978, the San Luis Obispo County Farmers’ Market Association has provided several marketplaces for family owned and operated farms, providing fresh, quality products to consumers, along with showcasing local entertainers.

Farmers Markets offer visitors more than just a quality shopping experience, but often provide a venue for an eclectic evening out or gathering with friends.

Avila Beach Farmers’ Market

A Central Coast favorite, Avila’s seasonal farmers’ market is held every Friday from 4:00-8:00 PM May thru August. Located on the Avila Beach Promenade, guests will enjoy fresh local produce, hand-crafted artisan foods, crafts, area restaurants selling local fare and live music. Fun for all ages, you can catch the free trolley into town, so you don’t have worry about parking. And you’ll get a free market buck to spend for riding!

Arroyo Grande Farmers’ Market

Every Saturday afternoon from 12:00-2:30 PM in Olohan Alley in the Village, roosters roam and crow at this downtown, country market. Located at the footbridge in old downtown Arroyo Grande, artists sell their wares creek-side, while musicians play for shoppers. Visitors will the enjoy the experience and the fresh, abundant produce.

SLO Evening Farmers’ Market

A favorite among locals, college students and tourists alike, the SLO Farmers’ Market is held year-round every Thursday evening at 6:00 PM, bringing the charming shopping district alive. The Higuera Street market encompasses more than five blocks of over 100 vendors and feels more like a street party with live music, entertainers and BBQ food booths. Of course, there’s plenty of fresh produce, flowers and other wares to peruse as well.

Pismo Beach Farmers’ Market

Held every Wednesday from 4:00-7:00 PM April thru September on the Pier Promenade, shoppers enjoy the best of two worlds at the Pismo Beach Farmers’ Market: the freshest fruits and vegetables, and ocean views! Stop by each week to check out the new offerings and special treats.
