Spend the Day at Avila Valley Barn – Farm, Market & Bakery

Avila Valley Barn ranks high on places to visit when you’re on the Central Coast. It’s rustic charm, rows of orchards, open-air market, homestyle baked goods and farm life draws locals and visitors of all ages from miles around.

Established in 1985 as a tiny roadside fruit stand, the attraction now spans acres, offering an authentic farm experience in San Luis Obispo County. Nestled in the hills of Avila Valley, Avila Valley Barn is open year-round, offering a variety of seasonal activities.

Farm and Market

Get the full farmstand experience during your visit. In addition to locally grown and organic produce, the country market is stocked with pantry goods and gifts, including cookbooks, kitchen gear, spices, jams and jellies. In the Fall, visitors will enjoy several varieties of apples and their famous apple cider. Cut flowers, plants and old-fashioned toys and books will delight patrons as well.

Pumpkin Patch and U-Pick Produce

Picking your own fruit and veggies is a fun pastime. At Avila Valley Barn guests can pluck their own peaches and apples right from the tree or choose berries and pumpkins straight from the vine. Depending on availability and season, you’re invited to pick cherries, berries and stone fruits May through October and apples and pumpkins in the fall.

 Petting Zoo

Get up close and personal with a variety of farm animals in the petting zoo. Greet ducks, chickens, peacocks, and even llamas and emus. Make friends with the goats by purchasing a bag of lettuce for them to nibble on. Feel free to pet the ponies, sheep and cows too!

Tractor Rides

Get into the farm spirit and embark on a tractor ride, whether hitching a ride out to the orchard to pick fruit and veggies or just a leisurely cruise around the grounds. A tractor ride is the perfect way to experience the valley views.

Country Bakery

The Avila Barn bakery harvests their farm-fresh fruit partly to bake their famous mouth-watering pies, turnovers and other fresh-from-the-oven baked goods all day long. It’ll be hard to choose just one sweet when you see the variety of cookies, hand-crafted fudge, breads, cobblers, muffins and cinnamon rolls. For a real treat, take home one of their partially baked apple pies to finish in your own oven.

Creamery and Sweets

If you have a sweet tooth, make sure to stop in the Sweet Shop, an old-fashioned sweets parlor filled with ice cream, fudge and barrels of candies. Enjoy seasonal ice cream flavors like Apple Strudel, Caramel Apple, Cinnamon Cream, Eggnog and Pumpkin. The shop is famous for its giant crisped rice treats, nut rolls, brittles, honeycombs, truffles, saltwater taffies and retro candies.

Smoke House Chicken Shack

On the weekend, the Barn fires up the BBQ and serves the best tri-tip and pulled pork sandwiches around, along with sweet roasted corn-on-the-cob. The spot features a deli too, which serves specialty sandwiches, paninis, salads soups and hot dogs.
