Fall Is a Beautiful Season to Visit Avila Beach
The curtain
may be coming down on summer soon, but that doesn’t mean it’s time to stop
visiting the beach. Fall is a beautiful season at California beaches, and Avila
Beach is no exception.
September
through November is thought by many to be the best time to visit the Central
Coast. Warm temperatures in the 70s and 80s, and less fog and more sunshine
than in the summer months, along with fewer crowds and off-season deals make it
a must for a Fall getaway. The harvest season is also an eventful time in the
area, showcasing an eclectic array of seasonal, local cultural activities and
points of interests, including winetasting and wildlife watching.
Take a peek
at our list of must-see attractions and events to enjoy during your Fall
vacation to the Central Coast.
Visit Avila Valley Barn
A local
favorite, Avila Valley Barn is a unique farmers market-style stand, offering
the freshest fruit and locally grown vegetables, and is also popular for its
scrumptious bakery and deli. September through November guests can enjoy
hayrides, feeding the farm animals at their petting zoo, pony rides and a
pumpkin patch. In October the hay maze is a popular attraction, and the farm
starts selling fresh Christmas trees Thanksgiving weekend. Don’t forget to stop
by the gift shop filled with jams, cheeses, candies and eclectic kitchen wares.
Apple Picking
Autumn is
apple season in Avila. Avila Valley boasts the perfect climate for growing
apples, and is home to more than one u-pick apple farms. Pluck your own juicy
apples from trees at Gopher glen and See Canyon apple farms for your own farm
to table experience.
Tour the Monarch Butterfly Grove
The Pismo
Beach Monarch Butterfly Grove is one of only five sites in the state that has
counts of over 10,000 butterflies annually. Beginning in October, thousands of
vibrant orange and black Monarch Butterflies flock to Pismo State Beach,
seeking shelter from the freezing northern winters. The butterflies cluster in
the limbs of the majestic Eucalyptus trees lining an estuary that flows to the
Pacific Ocean.
Wine Tasting
Enjoy the
town’s fall harvest by sipping your way through the Avila Beach Wine Trail.
Sample the seasonal wines as you visit the downtown tasting rooms and wineries
along the beach front promenade. Be sure to check the local calendar for
upcoming fall wine events and festivals in the area.
Sample the Clams
Held in
October, the Pismo Beach Clam Festival has been a community tradition since
1946. The event features a live parade, best local chowder contest, surf
